With the publication of Ofcom’s annual Communications Market Report, the facts of communications market industry are out in the open. The report takes stock of the radio, TV, broadband, mobile as well as telecom industries.

The report reflects the status of the £52 billion industry and the position it holds among the consumers in comparison with other industries. It has been noted that consumers would prefer to reduce their expenses on holidays or dining out but would not compromise on their mobile broadband, despite the hard financial times. It is important to note that the market instead of being affected by the recession has actually witnessed a slight growth in last year.

The report suggests that mobile broadband saw an addition of a quarter of a million connections in one month alone, in May 2009 last year. Further, around 12% of the houses had got mobile broadband connections by the first three months of 2009, out of which around 75% already had a fixed connection, which according to these householders, was complementary to the mobile connections.

Summarizing the statistics revealed by the report, it can be safely said that consumers in the UK are ready to spend more on mobile, telephone and TV than other services, however, many of them are going for bundled packages, or the free laptop with mobile broadband offers to save some money in these services.
