A new mobile broadband package from Vodafone is offering unlimited data download at a set monthly charge. The contracts are available for periods of 1 month, 1 year, 18 months and 2 years, with the shortest one targeted at those who prefer not to be locked in a long-term package.
This fixed rate mobile broadband pricing model has often been declared unfeasible and if such a model is in place then consumers are usually expected to pay much more. Vodafone, with the launch of the new package, is going against common wisdom and would be putting a lot of competitive pressure on other service providers in the industry. What will compound the misery for the competition is the fact that at 7.2Mb, Vodafone also offers one of the highest mobile broadband speeds in the country.
The new package will cost £18 per month with additional VAT charges. When compared against other deals floating around in the market, which sometimes charge £15 per month for a meagre data download limit of 3GB, the Vodafone deal seems like a great bargain for the customers. The packages that will be hurt the most by the Vodafone deal will be the ones providing higher download limits of up to 15GB, and charging significantly more.
Vodafone is also offering a free wireless dongle to subscribers going for contracts longer than 18 months. With so much on offer, the company’s ‘never pay more, all you can use’ slogan seems appropriate for the package.
